What Is a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency may include:

  • Toothache
  • Cut or bitten tongue, lip or cheek
  • Knocked out permanent tooth
  • Knocked out baby tooth
  • Chipped or fractured tooth
  • Severe blow to the head
  • Possible broken or fractured jaw

We will make your child’s emergency a priority!

How Should I Handle a Dental Emergency?

If you think that you may be dealing with an emergency situation, please do not ignore it. As a parent, the best thing you can do for your child is to remain calm. If your child is already in pain, you don’t want to add to their worry because they feel that mom or dad is upset. Then contact Poplin Pediatric Dentistry.

If your child’s tooth is broken, try to collect and save any and all broken pieces and keep them in a safe place. Similarly, if a permanent tooth has been knocked out, try and retrieve it. Handle the tooth very carefully. Try to hold the tooth by the top part of the tooth (not the root). If the accident happened in a clean location, put the tooth back in the socket and try to hold the tooth in place. If the tooth is dirty, place the tooth in a cup of cold milk. You should come in to our office as soon as possible to give the best results.
