Hospital Dentistry in Austin, TX
Dr. Poplin feels that if General Anesthesia is needed, then it should be done in a hospital setting. We do not perform in office General Anesthesia.
Our goal is to ensure that all our young patients get the care they need in a setting where they feel safe and secure. At Poplin Pediatric Dentistry, we work hard to make dental visits a non-threatening and rewarding experience for both you and your child.
Our team is trained to be sensitive to the developmental, behavioral, and treatment needs of all children. We see each child as the unique individuals they are, and we know that some kids are just not as receptive to dental treatments as others. Our team is great with kids and, in most cases, we can calm an apprehensive child so we can care for them right here at our Austin dental office.
However, there are many children who just can’t relax enough to sit through lengthy or complicated procedures done at our office. For those kids, we recommend hospital dentistry under general anesthesia. We’re affiliated with Dell Children’s Medical Center where we work with trained anesthesiologists to safely treat your child in a controlled hospital setting.
In-Hospital General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is very helpful in a number of situations:
- Your very young child has trouble sitting still in the dental chair.
- Multiple dental procedures are needed to address several problems at once.
- More complex treatment like a tooth extraction or root canal are required.
- Your child has special needs and would benefit from general anesthesia. Anyone who requires a different approach to dental care may be considered a patient with special needs.
Under general anesthesia, your child will go into a deep sleep. This will keep them comfortable and prevent them from moving around so that Dr. Poplin can work most efficiently. They will have no memory of the procedure afterward.
It can be overwhelming to think about hospital dentistry for your child. We understand, but in reality, it may be the best possible solution for making sure your child gets the important dental care they need in as stress-free a manner as possible.
Providing the Best Care for Your Child
Dr. Poplin will only recommend general anesthesia if he believes it is in the best interest of your child. Each child will receive the safe and quality care they need with a minimum of stress and worry.
There are some important things you’ll need to know about restrictions before and after your child’s dental procedure. If we make a recommendation for treatment under general anesthesia we will spend time answering all your questions until you feel completely comfortable with your decision to choose hospital dentistry for your child.
